I could say that when the weather gets warm, we start eating a lot of ice cream. However, life in Alaska has shown us that ice cream is a year round choice for us. However, when we lived in the lower 48, summertime meant ice cream that would cool and refresh us. Just like this homemade blueberry vanilla ice cream.

While you can definitely visit your local grocery store to pick up vanilla ice cream and then top it with a handful of blueberries, it is more fun to make your own at home. Plus, you know exactly what went into the ice cream and can pronounce every ingredient!
An ice cream machine makes it very easy to do. Typically, you need to freeze the container before adding your ingredients. Otherwise, it is pretty much plug and go.

You can also freeze the mixture in a cake pan instead. It is a little more labor intensive. Just make sure to cover the pan with plastic wrap and occasionally stir it as the solidification process happens.
